The school was initially known as Stonehill. At another school committee meeting, held on 21 April 1970, a different school name was decided upon. The parents were involved in the naming and it was decided on Saffier Primary School, reminiscent of the poem “Die Beste” by C. Louis Leipoldt with the motto “Our Best” derived from the title of the poem. The blue gemstone, the sapphire, symbolizes purity and nobility.

In 1991 Saffier Primary School and Parow Valley Primary School were united. The Afrikaans medium status of the school was then changed to double medium status, from Gr.4-7. In 2002, the GSF (Grade R-3) also changed from Afrikaans medium to double medium.

Parents have great appreciation for the education their children receive at Saffier. That is why we often see learners with the same family ties enrolling at Saffier.

The learners at Saffier represent various cultures and religions. Many of our learners come from underprivileged homes. Some households need financial support. That is why at Saffier we do our utmost best to support those in need. We help in various forms, for example affordable school fees, food scheme, clothing for those who cannot afford new ones. We have parents and teacher that donate clothing to some of our learners. We offer transport to and from events for example sports and cultural. Learners with financial difficulties are treated with compassion and respect.

Despite various problems, our children perform exceptionally well. In the field of sport and culture, Saffier has always stood his ground and in some cases they produce excellent performances. Learners are encouraged to participate in order for them to develop their talents.

Often learners who have completed their primary school career at Saffier are also chosen as leaders of their respective schools they attend.
